    カーター・ファミリー　The Carter Family

    A.P.カーター(vo, gt)、妻のセイラ(vo, autoharp)、義理の妹のメイベル(vo, gt)の三人組みで、アパラチア山脈に伝わる民謡や宗教歌を歌いました。1927年にビクターが開催した新人歌手を発掘するオーディションで見出された人材です。初録音は27年8月1日に6曲ほど行なわれ、この中から「Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow」、「Single Girl, Married Girl」がヒットしました。その後、27年から34年にかけてビクター傘下のブルーバードに数多くの録音を残し、34年から35年はARCに所属し、36年から38年はデッカと契約していました。また、38年から40年にはテキサス州デル・リオのラジオ局XERA（後にXERF）に常設番組を持っていました。代表曲は「Little Darling Pal Of Mine」、「Will The Circle Be Unbroken」、「Wildwood Flower」、「Keep On The Sunny Side」、「Worried Man Blues」など数多くあります。メイベル・カーターの弾くギター奏法は”カーター・ファミリー・ピッキング”や”カーター・スクラッチ”と呼ばれて現在でも多くのアーティスト達に使われています。1943年にカーター・ファミリーは解散し、その後、カーター家の子供達は二つのグループを作って活動しました。
