    ジョニー・キャッシュ　Johnny Cash

    米国のカントリー歌手で、黒い服を好んで着たことから”Man In Black”と呼ばれました。1932年2月26日にアーカンソー州キングズランドで生まれました。音楽活動に入る前は、農業、空軍服務、電気掃除機の販売、詩作などに携わっていました。1954年にメンフィスでバンドを作り、1955年にサン・レコードから最初のシングル盤「Cry! Cry! Cry!」を出し、カントリー・チャートのTop10になりました。続いて同1955年にそのB面「Hey Porter」、同1955年「Folsom Prison Blues」、1956年「I Walk The Line」、1958年「The Ballad Of A Teenage Queen」、同1958年「Guess Thing Happen That Way」などをヒットさせました。1958年にコロンビアに移り、1959年「Don't Take Your Guns To Town」、1963年「Ring Of Fire」、1969年「A Boy Named Sue」、1970年「What Is Truth」、1971年「Sunday Mornig Comming Down」などのヒット曲を出し続けました。1968年にはフォルサム刑務所でライヴ・アルバム「At Folsom Prison」を録音し、1968年6月からABC放送局に冠番組『Johnny Cash TV Show』を持ち、世界的にも知名度が高まりました。70年代に入るとさらに活動範囲が広がり、エルサレムとヴェトナムを訪れ、それを題材に歌ったり、映画『A Gun Fight』ではカーク・ダグラスの相手役として出演しています。2003年9月12日にテネシー州ナッシュヴィルの病院で死去しました。
