レナード・コーエン　Leonard Cohen

本名をレナード・ノーマン・コーエン( Leonard Norman Cohen )と言い、カナダの詩人、小説家、自作自演歌手です。1934年9月21日にカナダのケベック州モントリオールでユダヤ人の家庭に生まれました。マッギル大学とコロンビア大学で英文学を専攻しました。卒業後はギリシャに移住し、先ずは1966年に発表した小説『Beautiful Losers』（邦題『嘆きの壁』）で名を知られました。1967年に米国のニューヨークに居を移し、自作自演歌手としての活動を始めたのは30代半ばになってからのことです。同年にジュディ・コリンズに提供した楽曲「Suzanne」がヒットしました。1967年に発表したアルバム「The Songs of Leonard Cohen」はSinger/Songwriterの概念を再定義したと言われています。その他の主なアルバムは、1969年「Songs from a Room」、1971年「The Song Of Love And Hate」、1973年「Live Songs」、1974年「New Skin for the Old Ceremony」、1984年「Various Positions」、1988年「I'm Your Man」、1994年「Cohen Live: Leonard Cohen in Concert」、2001年「Ten New Songs」、2004年「Dear Heather」などがあります。2016年11月10日に、自身のフェイスブックを通じて訃報が伝えられました。享年82歳でした。
