    ソウル・スターラーズ　The Soul Stirrers

    1926年にテキサス州で結成されたゴスペル・カルテットの名門です。リード歌手ロバート・ハリス師( Robert Harris ) の高く澄んだテナーの背後で、四部の和声を構成するために第二テナーを配置して新局面を開き、それまでのジュビリー・カルテットを戦後随一のゴスペル・カルテットに変貌させました。アラディン、スペシャルティなどに吹き込み、1951年にはハリス師の後を継いだサム・クック( Sam Cooke )の甘い歌声により10代の黒人のアイコンとなりました。サム・クックはポップ路線を追及し、作曲家兼ギター奏者のリロイ・クルームを加入させ、器楽的要素も取り入れました。サム・クックの後は、ジョニー・テイラー、後期にはウィリー・ロジャースなどを加えながら活動を継続しました。アルバムは「Sam Cooke With The Soul Stirrers」ねどがあります。
